Willemstad, Curacao. Deputy Prime Minister: Mrs. Ruthmilda Larmonie-Cecilia (PNP political party) expressed, that she did not know that the Prime Minister of Curacao Gilmar Pisas (MFK political party) sent a letter to the Netherlands Minister of foreign affairs: Mrs. Alexandra van Huffelen, expressing his concerns for the introduction of the consensus law: COHO. According to her, she was surprised about the letter.
UNKNOWN LETTER TO PNP
Cecilia expressed: “The way we can react is very simple. We have been walking a path regarding COHO. Before the elections, we were saying, the PNP political party said before the elections that we are going to renegotiate the COHO and that is what we have been doing until now. At this point we come to the place where we have COHO 2.0 on the table at the end, which had a memorandum of amendment (nota van wijziging). After that, there are still some points, where for us (the government), cross out (cross out) our autonomy! During my work trip to the Netherlands, the Prime Minister and I went to see Secretary of State van Huffelen, where we gave her the seven (7) points and we got a vacancy for the seven (7) points, with a small commission from Curacao and one from the Netherlands to see how we deal with those seven (7) point.”
She continued: “So, the process went here. Then I took note, right now through the media, of a letter that the Prime Minister had sent to the Secretary of State, where he also added the seven (7) points as an annex. But, in the letter, he explained the pain of points when it comes to our autonomy. Also the relationship, the strategy and the direction in which Parliament should go. That too, let me start by saying that I regret that letter, because, at the time the Prime Minister sent it, I did not know about its content or that a letter was going to be sent! But, in the middle, I spoke to the Prime Minister about it, where I told him, when you're in a merger or when you're in any relationship, things need to be dealt with inside before they come out. When I took note of the content of the letter, within it, there were some points that could be said to be pain coming from the parliamentarians and that they needed to carry forward and we as a government, were already walking on a journey and we need to keep walking!”
