Willemstad, Curacao. According to Curacao's Minister of Traffic, Transport and Urban Planning (VVRP): Mr. Charles Cooper, the attendance to intertraffic was fruitful. Among other things, he sat with the Netherlands Minister of infrastructure and was able to see technologies for camera usage concerning traffic and transportation.
FACIAL RECOGNITION TECHNOLOGY IN CURACAO?
During an interview, Cooper stated: “The trip went very well, I feel like it went very well. It was a very busy trip, but equally successful. First of all, I want to say, at intertraffic, you will find the latest new technologies for traffic. Where we can see which one we could use here. We focused a lot on the license plate reader, because we still want to go to that facial recognition part or see inside the car so that you can use new technologies, so that you can, say, keep people on the rope (in check) (in touw). People who drive and text on mobile phones, do you know what I mean? These were the technologies we went to see.”
Cooper continued: “We got good information, and they (the companies) are even willing to come to Curacao so we can continue the conversation about it. Apart from the intertraffic, which was four (4) days, we attended three (3) of them. We also went to a place called the South (inaudible), which is part of the south of Amsterdam. There, they transformed a neighborhood, they completely upgraded it, which is something never seen in the Netherlands and that, we are also going to see how they did it, so that we can do those kind of neighborhoods here in Curacao as well.”

NETHERLANDS MINISTER OF INFRASTRUCTURE AND WATER MANAGEMENT
Cooper continued: “The Minister, Mark Harbers, is the Minister for Infrastructure and Water Management in the Netherlands, is like the VVRP of the Netherlands. And there (at intertraffic) we met but we also talked about three (3) topics. One was the Meteo (meteorology) part, which is how, as Curacao, we can provide services to Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba, the BES islands, because we already provide that service to Sint Maarten. We also talked with him about two (2) other topics, which is the aviation and maritime part. Why? Because, for aviation and the Maritime, especially the Maritime, which next year has an auditorium of the IMO, International Maritime Organization. It has an audit of the Kingdom. So when you audit the Kingdom, it's not just Curacao, in this case the Netherlands is also included. Which means we need to see how we're going to attack that thing together, prepare so that when the audit happen, everything is on top! That's what we talked about and I must say, we immediately put a group to work in the Meteo to provide services to the BES islands, that is a working group that will work and will soon come with proposals on how we are going to attack that part.”
