It was announced that Curacao Police Force (KPC) (Korps Politie Curacao) will continue to rent cars for another month to be able to do their jobs.    NO MONEY FOR NEW POLICE CARS According to an announcement, the Curacao Minister of Justice: Mr. Shalten Hato (MFK political party), was able to obtain 20,000 guilders to cover the next month of May, for the eight cars that needs to be rented. It came out, that according to the Ministry of Justice, apparently, there is no money nor budget to buy new cars for the police department.    LAW ENFORCEMENT PROTEST Last month, some officers from the Anti-Robbery Team (atrako team) and the National Security Service (LBD) (Landelijke Beveiligingsdienst) stopped working, to protest against the institutions because their vehicles are broken, making the officials unable to do their jobs properly.   FINANCIAL PROBLEM WITH THE CURACAO POLICE DEPARTMENT? For years the Curacao Police Force has problem with their budget, since 2018, they had a deficit of 40 million guilders in the budget. This problem, has insure that the police department continue working on a Private-Public Partnership (PPP) principle, in which government and private businesses work together to insure national security (and financially).  In 2017 a team was set to help better the financial situation for the police department, consisting of members of the KPC, Government Accountant Foundation SOAB (Stichting Overheidsaccountantsbureau), the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Justice. Among other things, this team must ensure a responsible budget, whereby old debts can also be repaid, such as to the Netherlands Forensic Institute (NFI).
