Action Center Undermining Curacao (ACOC) (in Dutch: Actiecentrum Ondermijning Curacao) does control on sector of car sales Apparently, according to the spokesperson for the OM: Mr. Roderick Gouverneur there is a group of people in Curacao that make use of this sector to do cash money laundry. ACOC AND PARTNERS The ACOC emitted a communication where they inform that they have started with their control on business and establishments involved in car sales, car part and repair (vehicles). ACOC will be working together with the: Ministry of Economy Development (MEO), Foundation Tax Accountants Bureau (SBAB), Douane, Ministry of Social Development Labor and Welfare (SOAW), Social Insurance Bank (SVB), Financial Intelligence Unit Curacao (FIU) Police Corps Curacao (KPC). During an interview, the OM spokesperson declared: “ACOC is a multidisciplinary team from the Justice Ministry, which stands for Action Center Undermining Curacao. Which means Undermining, which is the destabilization in reality of a economy and a governance of a country. We could say that this team is against this, that is ACOC! Inside of it we have different participants, the Public Ministry is one of them, you have KPC, MEO, SBAB, Interpol, Coast Guard, FIU which used to be MOT, which also is one of the team participants in the team.” Gouverneur went further: “Tuesday that past, part of this team made a control at two (2) establishments which sells cars and cars parts. The reason for this control was base on two things. One was to control to see if all of these businesses have their business permits and also if they are registered at FIU and the other part was to raise awareness to the businesses, to see that they are not doing business with criminals! A lot of times, criminals use car business for them to to buy a car in cash. In this way they laundry their money. Or they bring youths that buy a car and put the car in the name of a international business. So, these things are very strange. Which means, this part was to bring awareness to these businesses, on how they need to do their business, so that they do not find themselves in trouble.
