THE UN SECRETARY GENERAL MEET WITH DUTCH CARIBBEAN ISLANDS PRIME MINISTERS

Willemstad, Curacao. February 2nd 2022. On the 31st of January 2022, four of the Dutch kingdom's prime ministers conducted a virtual meeting with the UN Secretary General: Mr. António Guterres. The meeting took place after Mr. Mark Rutte: the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, filed a request to the United Nations General Assembly in September 2021.
THE MEETING
The Prime Ministers who attended the meeting:
Prime Minister of the Netherlands: Mr. Mark Rutte
Prime Minister of Curacao: Mr. Gilmar Pisas
Prime Minister of Aruba: Mrs. Evelyn Wever-Croes
Prime Minister of Sint Maarten: Mrs. Silveria Jacobs
The meeting talking points: The relationship with neighboring country Venezuela and Nicolas Maduro,
The effects of climate change and
The COVID-19 pandemic
Mr. Gilmar Pisas, Prime Minister of Curacao, believes that the international community must consider Curacao and the other islands in the region because they are all Small Island Developing States (SIDS). One of his statements was as follows: “The islands are small and they need the necessary financial assistance to continue with their development, but also technical assistance and capacity building.”
Mr. Guterres expressed that he will continue to present the talking points to the General Assembly of the United Nations (GA-UN) just like he did in September 2021, in order for larger countries to consider them.
