In a communication with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG), the discussion of Curacao medical schools and the role that the ECFMG plays was discussed. From the discussion with ECFMG officials two important points were explained that should assist and equip students interested in studying medicine in Curacao.
ECFMG official was asked of the role ECFMG played in the accreditation of medical school, and they responded; "ECFMG does not accredit medical schools, but we are a strong advocate for medical school accreditation based on international standards for medical education. The primary role of ECFMG is to certify international medical graduates (IMGs) who wish to pursue graduate medical education (GME) opportunities in the United States".
The ECFMG officials continued; "There are two accrediting agencies in the Caribbean that are recognized by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) and The Accreditation Commission on Colleges of Medicine (ACCM) and The Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine and Other Health Professions (CAAM-HP)".
