Willemstad, Curacao. It seems that Ukraine could soon join the European Union (EU). Mrs. Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, promised the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky (Friday. April 8th 2022). During a visit, she formed an opinion on Ukraine's accession, which would take weeks, whereas it might normally take years.
ONE WEEK TIME
It is up to the 27 EU member states to decide whether or not to submit to Ukraine, because, all countries must agree to this. Regardless, Von der Leyen handed Zelensky a questionnaire that forms the starting point for the EU to decide on Ukraine membership. Zelensky is supposed to give his answers in a week.
RUSSIAN INVASION FACTOR
At the end of February, Ursula von der Leyen spoke in favor of Ukraine's entry into the European Union, despite the fact that Ukraine was not a candidate country, before the Russian invasion. The Ukrainian parliament had its desire to join the EU written into the constitution in early 2019. The country's goal was to apply for a formal application for membership by 2024.
