HARD DRUGS BECOMING A PERSISTENT PROBLEM IN CURACAO?

Willemstad, Curacao. 29th March, 2022. A 22-year-old soldier was arrested by the Marechaussee (Dutch Police Task Force) at the Mambo beach club yesterday night. The man was apprehended peddling dangerous drugs to guests.
THE ARREST
The soldier is not stationed in the Suffisant or Parera area, but is visiting for the holidays from the Netherlands. The Dutch soldier has been accused with cocaine trafficking and possession. Heroin is an addictive narcotic that can cause serious physical or psychological dependence.

ABOUT THE MARECHAUSSEE
The Marechaussee also carries out police duties in the Caribbean. It does this for Dutch soldiers, soldiers of the Curacao and Aruban Militia and military locations.
The Marechaussee carries out the following police tasks for the Kingdom in the Caribbean:
- Fighting crime together with the local Police and the Coast Guard.
- Border surveillance on the islands of the Caribbean Netherlands.
- All common police duties at Flamingo Airport on Bonaire.
- Providing basic policing services on Saba and St. Eustatius together with the police.
- Helping with border security and immigration control on Curacao, Sint Maarten and Aruba.
- Combating serious violent crime and drug and migration crime in Curacao, Sint Maarten and Aruba.
