Willemstad, Curacao. According to reports, starting Friday, gasoline prices on Bonaire, St. Eustatius, and Saba (BES) will drop by 16 cents per liter. This is due to the drop in excise duties in response to rising fuel prices on the global market.
BONAIRE, SINT EUSTATIUS AND SABA
The excise duty reduction will be in effect until the end of 2022, according to the Dutch cabinet. On Friday, the identical policy will take effect in the European Netherlands, with the excise charge being dropped by 17 cents per liter. The excise decrease will be introduced to the House of Representatives via an emergency legislation, along with the measures for the European Netherlands.
5.1 million euros were made available for Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, and Saba this month to compensate for drastically increased oil and gas prices. The Netherlands State Secretary: Mrs. Alexandra van Huffelen, suggested that a cut in excise duty would most likely be chosen. 1.7 million euros is involved, but it is unclear what will happen to the remaining 5 million euros.
Because there is no excise charge in Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, and Saba, the legislation has no impact on diesel prices. The island governments, will establish the exact new price of gasoline. Starting Friday, the excise charge on Bonaire will be 16 cents per liter, while in Sint Eustatius and Saba, it will be 8 cents.
