Willemstad, Curacao. Curacao Minister of Finance: Mr. Javier Silvania (political party MFK), is in the midst of finalizing a deal with the American corporation: AirBnB. The company runs an online marketplace for vacation accommodations and tourism activities, particularly for homestays.
LANDLORDS TO PAY TAX RENTING ON AIRBNB?
Years of negotiations between the government and AirBnB resulted in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in 2017. In 2019, the MoU was extended to include discussions about the promotion of the island as well as cooperation on shared interests.
The platform's goal is to pay the local tax authorities the turnover tax payable on short-term rentals. The government measure/proposal, that would make this possible, must be presented to the Curacao Parliament for approval before the end of the year.
