Willemstad, Curacao. According to the Curacao Ministry of Social Development, Labor and Welfare (Sociale Ontwikkeling, Arbeid en Welzijn (SOAW)), at the moment there are many job vacancies available in Curacao and that, the problem is that the person must be well prepared. to get the job.
MORE THAN 500 YOUTHS ARE UNEMPLOYED
The SOAW ministry is working on a trajectory to ensure that all 500 young people (ages 18-30) who are unemployed and on welfare (onderstand), can be guaranteed to get a job. This was confirmed by the Minister of SOAW: Mrs. Ruthmilda Larmonie-Cecilia.
Among other things, she expressed the following: “It is a path that we started to work from the beginning when we entered the ministry. Why? This is the umbrella of the welfare law and everything that falls under it. When we look at the law, we start to go into the neighborhoods, where we start talking to people who receive welfare. What were the reasons why they couldn't get a job, also so that we know what prevents them (stroba) from getting a job. Afterwards we received a lot of information from the different neighborhoods we visited and a student from the Netherlands, who made a complete change of management for us regarding the welfare law. Then we saw that there were 500 young people between the ages of 18 and 30 who did receive social assistance (welfare). So we said, ok, we start with the 500 young people, we called everyone. We made an appointment with all of them, to invite them to come to the ministry, where we spoke with them and then we did an evaluation to find out what the qualifications of the young people were.
Know what you need to work on for young people to get a job. We had an agreement (palabrashon) with different job providers, who are willing to give these young people a chance, but first we must know what we have to work on specifically for each young person.
So, on Friday of last week we started with the trajectory, we started with a group, which we invited to come and from there we will continue talking with all the 500 young people to see what training they should have so that they all have a job.”

CURACAO YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT
Since 2020, Curacao's youth unemployment has been 42.2 percent (42%) and with the COVID 19 pandemic, this number continues to grow. The pressure on society is increasing, one of the consequences is the fact that the workforce is shrinking with more workers leaving the country to seek a better opportunity in another country.
