Kinderen tot 12 jaar die geen ingezetenen zijn en ook ingezetenen van de voormalige Nederlandse Antillen betalen $10 per bezoek aan het eiland. Er is een vrijstelling voor Bonairiaanse studenten die in het buitenland studeren. De toeristenbelasting kan vooraf online of bij aankomst worden betaald. De toeristenbelasting voor cruisepassagiers verandert per 1 januari 2023. De huidige zogenaamde 'headtax' voor cruisetoeristen wordt dan een toeristenbelasting van 10 dollar per persoon. Met de opbrengst van de nieuwe toeristenbelasting dragen toeristen bij aan de ontwikkeling van Bonaire. BONAIRE REGERING De ontwerp-Verordening toeristenbelasting is op 12 april vastgesteld in de besluitvorming van de Eilandsraad. De voorgestelde wijziging wordt eveneens aangenomen. Dit betekent dat de nieuwe zogenaamde 'Entry Tax' de huidige 'room tax' en 'auto tax' vervangt, waarbij tot 1 juli 2022 nog toeristenbelasting per persoon per nacht en bij het huren van een auto moet worden betaald. Met het huidige systeem , een toerist die 9 dagen blijft en samen met 1 partner een auto huurt betaalt ongeveer US$ 67 aan toeristenbelasting en autohuur. De invoering van de toeristenbelasting past binnen de visie van het bestuurscollege om Bonaire te positioneren als hoogwaardige toeristenbestemming. Zo verschuift de verantwoordelijkheid voor het betalen van de toeristenbelasting van logiesverstrekkers naar niet-ingezetenen. De nieuwe verordening zal naar verwachting de inkomsten voor het eiland met meer dan $ 6 miljoen per jaar verhogen. “De opbrengst wordt vooral besteed aan het verbeteren van de kwaliteit en duurzaamheid van het toerisme op Bonaire. Wij richten ons onder andere op trainingsprogramma's, culturele activiteiten en zelfredzaamheid voor de inwoners van Bonaire.
