Comment: Everything was done to remove this comment, but JJosephaNews uncovered the salacious exchange. Ruben Diaz went on to lose his congressional seat, maybe it was his philosophy, political ideology or his platform. Later it seemed like former Senator The Rev. Ruben Diaz's actions was tragically hail by one of the most disastrous natural disasters to hit Puerto Rico. That's a bad omen! .
Best wishes to you; Senator Rev. Rubén Díaz; your family, your birthplace of Puerto Rico, the state of New York, and those of the 32nd District in the New York State.
Let me take this time to say that I wholeheartedly disagree with your approach to resolving the issue once and for all, I only wished more felt your zeal and will for a permanent solution as you so simply don't pinpointed.
I am reminded of an email question, that I posed to the democratic candidate for the next Presidential elections about what will be the USA Policy for the Caribbean, as a response I received in a correspondence from Her and her husband?
However, if I may, would you please answer a question for me, that may shed some light as I am just a Dr. Kim's World Bank Institute student of Municipal Finance and Parliamentary Budgeting?
Since you are also a Reverend; permit me to approach this also from a biblical perspective; which you would be better able to appreciate, from four (4) basic chords:
N. SEEKING Good Counsel. (Psalm 1:1-3) (Proverbs 11:14)
E. SAVINGS. (Proverbs 21:20), (Proverbs 22:3)
W. BUDGETING. (Proverbs 10:4) (Proverbs 23:3-4)
S. KEEPING out of Debt. (Proverbs 22:7), (Luke 14:28-30)
To cement my point to you as a motion to think progressively and retrospectively; but with caution of what is the tendency, I shall use the parable from; Luke 19:12-27 ESV , which you would also find in Matthew 25:14-30.
He said therefore, “A nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom and then return. Calling ten of his servants, he gave them ten minas, and said to them, "Engage in business until I come". But his citizens hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We do not want this man to reign over us.’ When he returned, having received the kingdom, he ordered these servants to whom he had given the money to be called to him, that he might know what they had gained by doing business. The first came before him, saying, "Lord, your mina has made ten minas more"...
In Luke 16:10, the bible says; “One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much."
So, I agree that something needs to be done, I agree that Puerto Rico should seek to be a state and not a colony, but shouldn't they have to prove this?
For example, prove this with better money and finance management, along with better fiscal administration!
Otherwise, it is like putting a band-aide on cancer wishing it to go away. The US debt is in the Trillions, and that's with the exceedingly large population in comparison to Puerto Rico; however Puerto Rico has a debt of 72 billion dollars for its population size. Some intervention needs to happen, some compliance accounting and forensic accounting needs to underscore where is the bleeding occurring and then, that needs to be "clamped down" and "sutured off". I don't think you can reward high debt with decolonization as an active member in Federal system.
Well let's look at Haiti and France to go in the opposite direction of instead of inclusion into a state there is the separation for independence, or even Curacao and The Netherlands. Now Curacao is at the brink of evermore increasing spending and debt but "mother Netherlands" is the financial oversight; and he who controls the purse controls the country. It's a step process to independency with better administrative and financial management of all its natural and human resources.
So I say it is a step process but first Puerto Rico must prove its administrative and financial management of all its natural and human resources in respect to its budgetary behavior and personality.
Furthermore; to be fair, Senator; let me ask one question?
What is the percentage of the shared taxes, conditional and unconditional transfers as it proportions of the Colony; (Puerto Rico); to The USA (50 states), looking at both Vertical and Horizontal balances?
Therefore, the dimension and the nature of Puerto Rico’s problem WILL NOT be solved with, your Youth March, in Puerto Rico, its a sad truth but a more possible reality! However; neither would it be solved at a deeper level; by wanting to change Puerto Rico's status from that of a colony. Puerto Rico could rather benefit; much more and much better through proven track record of Good Governance, that brings administrative and financially good sound management of fiscal behavior and personality into play, that which demands and warrants the 2 seat representation in Senate and 7 seats in The United States House of Representatives.
However; it seems that the true motives and the reality lies in gaining access to greater funding and financing capacities for Puerto Rico, whilst leveraging the power of the proposed 2 Senate and 7 US House Representative seats. My advice to you is show true leadership by recognizing and understanding that a baby eats and drinks breast milk compared to eating steak potatoes, lobsters and bony fish. It's irresponsible to throw a non-swimmer into the middle of the sea just as its irresponsible and foolish to feed a neonate steak, potatoes, lobsters and bony fish! Help the leaders to be more budgetary responsible and understand budgeting conscience at long and short term repercussions, because Puerto rico has tremendous capacity, they just don't need person's trying to taking advantage of them, their situations and misfortune.
All of this is good and fine to postulate and Hypothesize, but let’s ask your Democratic colleagues of Democratic Presidential hopefuls of Hillary Rodham Clinton and others; to seriously consider, what will be the US Policy & Strategy for The Caribbean and its US Colonies?
In closing, I leave with this quote from 1st Timothy 5:8; "But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever".
Sincerely;
