Willemstad, Curacao. April 20th. After Mr. Angelo Meyer; (Chairman of trade union PWFC aka Petroleum Workers Federation Curacao) left the meeting at the lawyer's office; seeking legal consultation, reportedly he then visited SOAW's (Sociale Ontwikkeling, Arbeid en Welzijn) Director; Mr. Randolph "Dois" Gijsbertha, in relation with the "firing" of some, of the Damen Shiprepair Curacao BV workers, who had received the bad news that was announced the day before.
THE DAMEN SHIPREPAIR WORKERS RIGHTS
During an interview, Mr. Angelo Meyer expressed: "I went to the lawyer, for the lawyer to look at what is going on and assess if everything that is going on is correct or not. The lawyer explained to us that the way Damen did this was uncultured (showru). Not that what it (Damen) did, it can not do it, because there is a process where, when you will have a lay off (afvloei) of so many workers, above twenty-five (25) persons, you must inform SOAW; two (2) months in advance. You must inform SOAW that you will dismiss the workers, and after that, within ten (10) days, you must submit a redundancy plan (afvloeiingsplan)! In this case it went upside down. They (Damen) informed the syndicate in ten (10) minutes and then, got out to speak with the workers and told them what will happen!”
Reportedly the result was that the workers became insulted and outraged!

SOAW OFFICE NEEDS TO DECLARE THAT DAMEN VIOLATED LABOUR LAWS IN CURACAO IF THEY DID? SO IS THIS A COMMON PRACTICE FOR DAMEN WORLDWIDE OR FOR MOST DUTCH COMPANIES OPERATING IN CURACAO AND DEALING WITH THE PISAS-II CABINET AND THE CURACAO'S GOVERNMENT?
Mr. Meyer continued; "Us; as a syndicate, must look out for our worker's interest! We called Minister Cijntje (the Curacao Minister of Economy) yesterday, where he said that he is making his contacts in the Netherlands and with the Netherlands Damen company headquarters, to see how they can stop the entire process and to take a look at it. Today in the afternoon, at 5PM, the Ministers will have a meeting with the high level officials from Damen and we will wait for the outcome to be known. So that we find out what is what. In the meantime, the Minister asked Damen to stop with the process; but Damen still went ahead with the process to call the workers! Until now, I don't have an indication of how many workers will be dismissed, because Damen did not say how many yet! In the morning when we were speaking with Mr. Dois Gijsbertha, he also did not get any information yet. We thought we could get information and documents there, stating how much workers would lose their jobs. However; there was nothing sent in yet, which means, the meeting for this afternoon, with the Ministers will speak with the high officials from Damen, and that is very important".

WILL THE MINISTER OF SOAW, TAKE A STAND AND NOT ALLOW A DUTCH COMPANY TO DISRESPECT THE CURACAO GOVERNMENT, ITS LAWS AND THE PEOPLE, EVEN IF PRIME MINISTER PISAS TURNS A BLIND EYE?
Mr. Meyer finalized; "It is important for us to see what will be the outcome! We spoke with Mr. Gijsbertha, to also see how far do they have the legal rights and authority for SOAW to stop this process! However; he said that he can not give anything yet, because he hasn't received anything yet! This means the situation is in a good state. We see the workers here, they are still hopeful that no one will lose their job, the syndicate will stand behind them, but there are details that we are still busy with. We are looking for details, to see how it is that Damen has this power to do what it's currently doing?".

JJosephaNews Media Network can report that; even though the Curacao Minister of Economic Affairs: Mr. Ruisandro Cijntje; informed the workers of presenting a unified front of being thy brother's keepers for the good of all the workers and negotiations, in addition; the PWFC syndicate President; Mr. Angelo Meyer; also requested that none of the workers sign the new contract with Damen.
However; reportedly, a small minority did not heed either consul by the minister nor the syndicate president and still forged forward individualistically and signed the new contract with Damen, hence breaking a unified front!
