Willemstad, Curacao. January 24th 2022. According to Curacao epidemiologist: Dr. Izzy Gerstenbluth, "The booster shot only starts working a week after vaccination,". Since last year (December 15th 2021) the omicron variant has been responsible for the current high infections on the Dutch Caribbean Island.
BOOSTER SHOTS
Those who have received the booster shot, do not need to be quarantined if they have been classified as close contact with someone with COVID-19. This apply if the booster shot have been administered at least a week before such contact.
QUARANTINE PERIOD
The quarantine period has been shortened from fourteen (14) days to ten (10) days. If someone does not have symptoms after six days, they can have a PCR test taken on day seven (7). The PCR test can be done at the expense of the local government if the appointment for the test is made through a general practitioner (GP).
According to research, most people carry enough virus between 4 and 6 days to demonstrate this with a PCR test.
According to Dr. Izzy Gerstenbluth: "If you take the test on the seventh day, it will be negative in the majority of cases. We are taking an acceptable risk."
Among other things, the epidemiologist also stated that: "After nine days, most people no longer carry an active virus and can therefore no longer infect others."
A person who tested positive for COVID-19 will be receiving an email as proof of recovery after their ten (10) days of isolation. The idea is to make the system completely automatic to manage and communicate with people who are in isolation.

According to Dr. Izzy Gerstenbluth: "Our small team cannot handle the large numbers we are dealing with now." According to the epidemiologist the number of cases are high: "Because we are falling behind more and more. As a result, there are people in isolation at home who could have gotten out of it already."
