Willemstad, Curacao. The first team ever to come back from a 3-1 deficit in National Basketball Association history, the Cleveland Cavaliers were led by a triple-double performance by Akron’s very own son, Lebron James.
The city of Cleveland four years ago was at zero but on Sunday night they stood as heroes on the Mount Olympus of the NBA Championship by defeating the defending champions, the Golden State Warriors 93-89.
During the 48 minutes of match-up, there were countless lead changes but when the fat lady sang at the end of Game 7 of the 2015-2016 NBA Finals championship, Cleveland’s 52-year drought ended and the Cleveland Curse was broken, the prodigal son returned to Cleveland, and brought back with him the championship and the Most Valuable Player award of the 2016 NBA season.
When asked to describe Lebron James, Kyrie Erving said, "He is the best player on earth," and Tristan Thompson said that Lebron helps everyone elevate their game.
The Cleveland Cavaliers are NBA Champions for once and for now and Q-city, Curacao, celebrates in the victory!
