WILL GUYANA BE CURACAO'S NEW BEST FRIEND?

Willemstad, Curacao. Earlier this year, after hints of the possibility of new oil and gas pockets hit Venezuela elite executives in ALBA and MERCUSUR, a strategic move was made to capture much of the potentially oil producing area; in order to take advantage of smaller countries’ ignorance of the true worth of the natural resources within their national maritime borders. Some sources claim that Venezuela's voracious hunger to capture every oil deposit has a socialistic-communistic directive; to share equally among its participating members within the Caribbean and beyond. However, what is the true cost of letting Venezuela do what it wants, or what are the true repercussions of standing in the way of not following the requirements as a member of ALBA or MERCUSUR? The latter is more important because of Maduro's and Venezuela’s relationship with the Communist-run Cuba, which is demanding inclusion in world affairs on a first grade level and is now aggressively demanding an end to the US imposed embargo; which Cuban high officials still today call a "blockade" to the almost 12 million inhabitants. In the United Nations, the votes are open and so who votes how is common knowledge and reason for reward or repercussions, as small country states look at ways and means to reduce the cost to their taxpaying citizens via lower natural gas and oil prices from memberships to these organisations. A suggestion, perhaps to discourage passive-aggressive influence and encouragement by NGOs and other wealthy countries, the UN might seriously consider secret voting, but that could open Pandora's box for even more aggressive tactics and strategies to influence the voting structure in the UN on the Cuba situation. But, how will US foreign policies change in reference to Cuba and Cuba's constitution if Donald Trump trumps the White House as president if he makes it to through the 2016 US elections? We have also seen the active involvement of the Vatican in assisting the Communist countries such as Cuba in these efforts by "donating" 1 million Euros to the small country state of Grenada in a passive exchange for allegedly support in the UN and the Caribbean to end the embargo against Cuba, which the Cuban Castro brothers and the Cuban populace still today calls a blockade. A closer look at the communist country presided over by the younger Castro Ruiz brother has Italians and other Europeans as the majority tourist percentage. In comparison, the Vatican Museum in 2011 had an annual tourist influx of about 5 million tourists, which generated a majority of the $113 million in revenue. According to the Catholic News Service in L'Osservatore Romano, the Vatican newspaper, Paolucci stated that "the total number of visitors in 2011 was just under 5.1 million". Meanwhile, in a report from Paolo Cipriani, director of The Institute for Works of Religion (IOR), which is frequently called the ‘Vatican Bank’, Cipriani stated that "the institute manages $8 billion of the church’s worldwide wealth and investments, as well as 33,000 accounts for clergy and parishes, held in euros". Approximately eight months after winning the presidential elections, US President Barack Obama made a short "private visit" to Pope Benedict in the Vatican and again on March 27, 2014, to Pope Francis in an almost one-hour-long meeting when they discussed various topics. Now a little more than four years later since Cipriani's statement, the Vatican Museum visits have increased and the IOR management of wealth and investments, probably more specifically those of natural earthly resources (like gas and oil), has also increased as well, and interestingly enough about one week ago the Vatican Council for the Economy released its financial statements and the budget report for 2014, in which US$1.02 billion in net assets were reported that had never been reported before due to new financial management policies and practices being implemented. So what did a little bird tweet to Guyana, when the elite forces of the Natural Oil and Gas Omnipotent Venezuelan/Cuban conglomerate ("NO-GOV-Co") filed maritime papers on rights to "international waters" as sovereign territory of Venezuela? Well, data show that the Liza-1 well has a possible 400 million barrels to possibly 700 and even more million barrels of oil, which equates to approximately 12 times that of Guyana's current GDP at current oil prices, according to a Bloomberg business release. According to sources, unfortunately for the British Commonwealth in the Greater Antilles, which also has an oil refinery and transshipment locale, a few years ago, a little bird did not tweet or shout an alarm in the then government's ear about the same thing when Cuba exercised the same maritime claim consuming more of the territory of the British Commonwealth island’s sovereignty and undiscovered oil fields that could have represented for that country possibly more than 50 times its then GDP. During the same time period, the US halted a similar action by Cuba in claiming rights in the Gulf of Mexico. What does this signify for Curacao's economy within the next decade? Well, one Curasaleña indicated, "It spells a surplus if voters elect responsible parliamentarians that will form a government that is only and primarily focused and interested in the people and country first and foremost." Curacao is just over 1 Megameter from Guyana; so transshipment for refinery purposes makes Curacao a gem in the Lesser Antilles of the Caribbean, even if we factor in Trinidad and Tobago's facility. Does this mean, a newfound best friend in Guyana for Curacao? Only time and politics will tell!
