LOCAL MEN ARRESTED IN VENEZUELA FOR HUMAN TRAFFICKING By: JJosephaNews Reading Time: 2:00 mins. Twitter: @JJosephaNews Willemstad, Curacao. January 27, 2022. Two Curasoleño men were arrested in Venezuela, regarding their involvement in human trafficking. They are being held in the Detention Center of the Venezuelan Intelligence Headquarters; La Tumba (The Tomb), which is an underground detention facility of a tower in Caracas, that serves as the headquarters for the Bolivarian Intelligence Service (SEBIN). THE ARREST During a search, Venezuelan officers found 157 passports in a bag, 154 Venezuelan and three (3) Peruvian-Spanish passports. In addition to illegal human trafficking, the men are also accused by the Public Prosecution Office of Venezuela (PPOV) of being involved in a criminal organization and the unlawful appropriation of functions. The National guard La Guardia Nacional Boliviana detained: Pamphis Diomedes, Sergei Paulus and Isidro Anacario (arrested early December 2020, in the state of Falcón) along with Hender Jesús Gotopo Antequera and Henry Jesús Gotopo López. According to the Public Prosecutor Office, four of the men have ties to an Organized Criminal Gang (OCG). It appears that they are recruiting Venezuelans who have been misled into accepting positions in the oil industry overseas (including other jobs). According to research, the island of Curacao is home to more than 20.000 undocumented Venezuelans, a number that appears to be growing as the COVID-19 pandemic develops. Venezuela has seen over 6.5 million people depart the nation. Around 94 percent of Venezuelans are poor, and human trafficking has increased by 300 percent since 2014. The islands host a largest number of Venezuelan refugees and migrants, with 1 in 10 being Venezuelans (overall), which are exposed to abuse, sexual and labor exploitation, and detention.
