Willemstad, Curacao. January 18th 2022. According to the Minister of Economic Development: Mr. Ruisandro Cijntje (political party PNP) a maximum price for the antigen self-tests for Covid-19 has been established.
SELF-TEST PRICE
A self-test is a test that you can do at home to ensure that you are not infected with the Coronavirus before leaving the house, going to school, or going to work. Based on a ministerial decision, the tests were incorporated in the regulation on maximum margins for retailers and wholesalers.
According to the minister:
"We have a free market, but we are also in the middle of a pandemic that affects us all."
Since January the 1st 2022, the self-tests were available once more in Curacao for the public to buy, but the prices for the self-test kit were far from reality, some ranging above $25. The current maximum prices are intended to protect consumers.
The wholesalers are allowed to make a maximum of fifteen percent profit on the antigen tests. A maximum of 25 percent applies to shops such as pharmacies. The Ministry inspection team (MEO) will be inspecting businesses to assure that that prices are not exceeded.
