CURACAO POLICE DEPARTMENT SPOKESPERSON ON THE INVESTIGATION

The spokesperson for the Curacao's Police Department; Mr. Imro Zwerver, declared; "We will be giving some information about the investigation that is taking place since last Sunday, at the moment that it became known that apparently there were two colleague's from the police force, two police workers of high ranks where they were using alcohol at a small store (toko) and that it was impugning  towards the law of alcohol prohibition (lei seku) prescription".

Mr. Zwerver further explained; "We did an investigation as the police force, because we believe that it is very important that in cases such like this one, we also said that, for sure where as a police force we are putting a lot of pressure on the community, looking that lately the quantity of infections are rising, for everyone to keep physical distance, to comply with laws and rules that the government are establishing, that, we ourselves are violating, as we say these laws. So, the police force took this matter very serious and the same way for all other cases that is investigated correctly, immediately the department of internal affairs was asked, for them to conduct an investigation and we can say that in between this investigation was finished and we have the result of the investigation".

Mr. Zwerver continued; "It will be good for me to say, before I pass the word to Mr. Ilario, which is the Interim Chief of the Curacao Police Force, that the investigation is based on a confirmation of an interview on last Sunday at a local station, where the MEO inspector confirmed based on a question that he was asked from the reporter, that there were police officials were consuming alcohol at a Toko, where MEO and the police force made a control."

CURACAO POLICE DEPARTMENT INTERIM CHIEF ON THE INVESTIGATION
Mr. Jules Ilario declared; "Truly; as my colleague; Mr. Zwerver indicated, since Sunday we started an investigation by the Curacao Internal Department of the police force and some steps that we did in this part, is that we carried a conversation with the business owner. In this case it was a Toko that was in a publication, we also spoke with colleagues, with the team that has the multi disciplinary control, the police colleagues that form part of the team we spoke also with Mr. Cornelis and we also spoke with the MEO colleagues that participated in the team".

Mr. Jules Ilario stated; "From all the declarations, we also compared it to a video that was at the location of the Toko, where we could have seen clearly that in any case, the two colleagues that were referred to, were not at the Toko in any moment, they were in the vicinity of the Toko, about 10 meters far from the Toko, they were at a car wash. So, in no moment they were at the Toko, at the location. Also we could have taken note at the Toko; that there was no agglomeration".

THE EVIDENCE
The Interim Police Chief clarified; "What the team found (konstata) was that one person, at the moment that the team got there, they (the team) took note that the person (at the toko) was opening a alcohol bottle, in this case a beer to drink and for that reason the place was closed.
On what is about these colleagues, they were at the car wash, they were standing there, as I said some 10 meters far from the toko and so they were not doing anything out of rules! That is our conclusion that we could prove from the declarations and in the video; that is very clear".

CURACAO POLICE CHIEF, JULES ILARIO; DECLARED THE HIGH RANKING POLICE OFFICERS DID NOTHING WRONG!
The Interim Police Chief continued; "So we want to emphasize that there is nothing wrong with what these colleagues did! There is nothing that they did not comply with, when about failing with the rules.

IS CURACAO'S POLICE DEPARTMENT CAPABLE OF SELF GOVERNANCE, SELF JUDICIARY AND SELF CONTROL?
Jules Ilario expounded; "In general the police force comes forward at the moment that there are things out of order that take place by its members, always we try to correct it, carry a conversation and what you want is to prevent the incident and if it is needed, sanctions also can be applied. But also, at the moment that it is brought in publicity, something that is not correct, that damages both the name of the organization but also the names of the colleagues, at the moment that it does damage, also the police force comes forward and in this case we ratify immediately".

Jules Ilario proffered; "Also today in the afternoon we carried a conversation in the presence of the MEO Minister (Minister of Economic Affairs; Mr. Steven Martina) and also the Justice Minister (Minister of Justice; Mr. Quincy Girigorie), the police force together with Mr. Cornelis for us to explain and correct and to agree (palabra hopi bon kla) very clear on how we will deal next time with these type of incidents, on what must be brought out in the public. For us to have a good communication with each other, to verify things before we bring things (trese kosnan dilanti) publicly, that for sure in this case, Mr. Cornelis was not present there, for us to verify very well before we bring things publicly because, these types of incidents on how it took place, on how it was brought publicity, damages the image of the corp and also of the colleagues."

RONNY CORNELIS DECLARATION CONTRADICTED THE CURACAO POLICE CHIEF DECLARATIONS
After the Curacao's Police Department interview on the investigation, then; during a live interview; Mr. Ronny Cornelis was asked a couple of questions where he accentuated that he stands for the truth and would die with it, in a ""WWF Wrestling" Third Person Response Style"!  Cornelius then continued with; so do not be confused that it was someone else referring to Mr. Ronny Cornelis👍!

Question #1; "Mr. Ronny Cornelis, you could have taken note of the declarations of the police force and the communication, it means that you did not spoke the truth then?"
Mr. Ronny Cornelis: You know, I want to be very short and concise, for both MEO and BVW, the police team are there to serve the community. The cause that is called, Curacao, is bigger than Ronny Cornelis and, what Ronny Cornelis does want to say is that, Ronny Cornelis stands and die for the truth! That is what I declare!

Question #2: "Ok, so if I understand Mr. Cornelis, well then, you say that you would die for the truth, so you spoke the truth that these police were consuming alcoholic drinks, how is it that the police force is saying the opposite?"
Mr. Ronny Cornelis: As I said already, I stand for the truth and then what the police force got out as part of their investigation, they are responsible for it.

Question #3: "They say that they spoke with Mr. Cornelis as well and base on those conversations and with the owner of the Toko and with the inspector of MEO, which is your person, the MEO workers, the policemen that were present, they spoke with everyone and based on that, they got to the conclusion that it was not the case."
Mr. Ronny Cornelis: I must say that they spoke with Ronny Cornelis, they did not speak with other officials from MEO!

Question #4: "So, what stand in the communication is not true?"
Mr. Ronny Cornelis: What I am telling you is that, they spoke with Ronny Cornelis, the other two officials did not carry a conversation with them.

Question #5: "And Ronny Cornelis told them that, what you are saying right now, that you stand for the truth, which means then, that, what you already declared, which is that they were consuming alcoholic drink?"
Mr. Ronny Cornelis: Cornelis stands for the truth! Ronny Cornelis stands for the truth!

Mr. Ronny Cornelis ended the interview with his comments towards the video footage that the police force referred to as evidence as follows; "They need to show those (pasa eseinan), if they said so. We in any case did our job and as I said I stand for the truth!"

COVID-19 CONTROL INACTIVATED TEMPORARILY BY THE POLICE?
Today; December 10th, 2020, during a morning interview; the Curacao's Police Force Interim Chief; Mr. Jules Ilario confirmed that yesterday, the police station took the police agents that were doing control out of the street to stop control

CURACAO POLICE INTERIM CHIEF SAID WE CAN NOT WORK LIKE THIS THERE IS NO TRUST AMONG MEO AND POLICE FORCE...
Jules Ilario stated; "Yes! That is correct! I can confirm that, that in any case for what is about the cooperation, in the multi disciplinary team we stop it for a moment. The police will continue with control but not in the combination with the multi disciplinary team because there are certain things that we need to clarify with government instances, with MEO and the police force for what is about the part of doing control in the department, we can not work this way! This is no way to work. Right now there is no trusts to continue like that."

NO TRUST IN THE CURACAO POLICE FORCE?
Parliamentarian for the opposition fraction in SVC-08 for political party MFK; Mr. Charles Cooper, is of the opinion that an independent body must do the investigation in this case.

A NEED FOR PARLIAMENTARY COMMISSION TO INVESTIGATE THE POLICE FORCE AND MINISTER OF JUSTICE; QUINCY GIRIGORIE; MAY BE THE SOLUTION TO WEED OUT CORRUPTION IN THE CURACAO POLICE FORCE; IF IT DOES EXIST?
During an interview, Cooper declared; "Who they want to fool? They were at the car wash? What is the car wash doing open after 6 o'clock? So the policemen needed to fine the car wash right? So these people who is it that they want to take as a fool in this community? The police need to stop, Ilario and the police management (mando) need to stop covering".

Cooper further stated; "We can not cover up for anybody, nor for your police, nor for colleagues and that is what is going on in the police force too many times!"
