Willemstad, Curacao. In mid September Curacao Prime Minister: Eugene Rhuggenaath expressed that the offer Caribbean Reform Entity (CRE) (in Dutch; Caribische hervormingsentiteit (CHE) from Netherlands to make a loan to help with COOVID impact and the decadency in the public and private economy, does facilitate for the country to make a loan base on Netherlands rating of risk and with a rate of interest of 0%. He stated, that better deal than this, practically there isn't non!
NO DEAL
In the month of July, when Netherlands presented the CRE deal to Curacao government, three ministers agreed that the deal is a deal to take away the democracy from Curacao. These ministers were:
Prime Minister: Eugene Rhuggenaath (PAR)
Minister of Economy: Steven Martina (MAN)
Former Minister of Health: Suzy Camelia Romer (PIN)
After loosing the confidence of PIN representative in parliament, it appeared that the PAR-MAN government stated that there is an advancement with Netherlands, but Netherlands Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations: Raymond Knops, came out and stated contrary to what was said on the agreement dialogs.
THE DEAL
During an interview on October 9th 2020, Minister Steven Martina answered the following question:
Reporter question: "Finally, Mr Martina, how is it that it came forward that an agreement is being reached, when in between still when Mr. Knops speak, he says that maybe there is some little signals on some things but there is no agreement.
He came forward on repeated occasions these days, I mean, were we a little precipitated then to speak about an agreement?
If that aspects stay touched upon, what could you say Mr Martina?"
Steven Martina answered the following:
"When we speak of an agreement, we say, it is on the part of Curacao.
Curacao is ready to give a political commitment.
But in between that we did not go true the process to reach there, where we are ready to give political commitment, I understand Mr. Knops is holding reserves.
And the political commitment, we can give it now that MAN went back to its party council and got blessings to continue, we are a step further.
Today, parliament will be informed and when we get the blessings from parliament, we will take the other step and then we can say truly on the part of Curacao we can give a political commitment.
And then we can sit on the table make the document with Mr. Knops and truly give political commitment and seal it also via a document and then I think Mr. Knops will say truly we reach to an agreement together."
