PRISON GUARDS LETTING VENEZUELAN REFUGEES ESCAPE. ARE THE GUARDS CORRUPT OR IS IT THE SYSTEM?

On May 8 2019, 21 undocumented Venezuelan asylum seeking migrants, escaped from the SDKK, Curacao's Center of Correction and Detention; (CCCD), aka Curacao's prison.

THE EUROPEAN COURT OF HUMAN RIGHTS (ECHR).

The European Court of Human Rights recently did ruled that 33 of these migrants could not be deported while their cases are being investigated for asylum. The detained group of Venezuelans were desperate and did at least two hunger strikes to protest and to regain their freedom. 

THE TWO PRISON GUARDS 

It was reported that the SDKK management has decided to suspend two of their prison guards. It seems that the suspended prison guards were on duty at the moment when the 21 Venezuelans escaped from their foreigners’ barrack.

THE REASON THE PRISON GUARDS WERE SUSPENDED

Apparently the SDKK warden, Mr. Urny Floran, said that the two prison guards made mistakes when reporting the incident. What the two prison guards reported did not coincide with the images that SDKK security cameras had shown. The two prison guards have been suspended for three months and there will be more investigation proceeding. 

CURACAO CORNER 

A college student from Roodeweg said the following; "I am too young for these types of things, but  since I can remember my "tata"; (father), always told me; "son, do not trust the Police",  and I never understood why; at the beginning, but with time, I learnt that my father was so right!"

The student continued; "I really would have wished my father was wrong, but the same people who swear to serve and protect us, seem to be the ones hurting and abusing us! The authorities on this little rock called Curacao, do not seem to respect the people only the money and the power."

Another university law student from Roodeweg commented; "Just like Norman Serphos, "lied to the police", so these 2 prison officers lied to their commanding officer and they both only got 3 months "Vacation" probably with pay; maybe without. The next thing you might hear is that those same 2 guards are working at Amigoe Newspaper as journalists or Deputy Assistant Editors at Amigoe Newspaper. The big crime here is that maybe they should dig deeper and find out if the commanding officer is involved in this corruption deal; "Curacao Prison-Gate", that has become an insult to the Entire Curacao's Justice System, just last year there were duffel bag loads of illegal drugs stolen from the Curacao's Police Quarters and before that. Those 2 officers should be trial, and if found guilty; sent to jail immediately; and everyone else who knew something of the prison break and did nothing to alert the proper authorities should be trial and sentenced as well."

The young law student continued; "I swear we need some new blood to lead us and get rid of all of these old corrupt officers and try all these ministers for derelict of their responsibilities. Prime Minister Rhuggenaath probably might be too scared to fire Quincy Girigorie, or Quincy Girigorie needs to get smart and do an "Independent William Barr move" on Curacao's executive branch and investigate all of them, even the Governor General if she is involved or covered up anything to protect anyone from her PAR Political party. That's how serious he has to take this situation and for God and King's sake, don't relay on your political party PAR; nor on political party MAN and Koeiman; but he needs to do what the law says he should do and must do! This is not the time for Quincy Girigorie to sell his soul, he may regret it later! Case close!"
