JAMAICA WINS THE 8th CARIFTA JUNIOR CHESS 2019 CHAMPIONSHIPS IN CURACAO

8th CARIFTA Junior Chess 2019 Championships illustrating the Chess Contribution Index

Willemstad, Curacao. The 8th CARIFTA Junior Chess 2019 Championships hosted in Curacao culminated on Monday April 22nd with a total of 6 wins for The Chess Federation from Jamaica to seal their Championship gold placed win! The Junior Chess Federation from Trinidad and Tobago, placed second; who edged out The Junior Chess Federation from Suriname followed by a bronze placed finishing of The Junior Chess Federation from Barbados in comparison to medal places.

After the 4 day CARIFTA Junior Chess 2019 Championships among 11 Chess Federation countries in 2 categories of Open and Females further subdivided into 3 divisions of Under 12, Under 16 and Under 20 age group, Jamaica stood out predominately as a potent force on the chess board in almost every category and division in The 8th CARIFTA Junior Chess 2019 Championships, hosted in Curacao for the first time. The top participants from Jamaica had a combined Chess Contribution Index of roughly over 2.24

The Trinidad and Tobago Chess Federation took home the silver placed finished, followed by the former dutch colony now independent country Suriname; taking home the bronzed placed finished, and their Chess Contribution Index of 1.87 and 1.86 respectively.

Reports show that after obtaining the final results, the Curacao Chess Federation withdrew the publishing of the results. We shall continue to investigate if there are any discrepancy. In a response from The president of The Curacao Chess Federation, Michell Fayad responded that they are overwhelmed with work; but he remained helpful!
