Willemstad, Curacao. According to reports, a staff deficit in the Curacao Medical Center's (CMC) Operating Room (OR) is causing delays and surgical cancellations.

 

STAFF LEFT CMC FOR NEW OPPORTUNITIES?

Seven (7) operating rooms are staffed at full capacity, but the department is short-staffed by eleven (11) positions, including anesthesia assistants, operating rooms assistants, sterilization assistants, and recovery room nurses, which means that, only five operating rooms may be completely staffed for usage. It was disclosed that 60 to 70 fewer procedures will be performed each week, due to the staff shortage.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the hospital team was under a lot of stress, and they had to intensify over the last month to make up for the long waiting list. The staff that left, were exhausted and anxious, therefore some started to look for new possibilities and left the hospital.
