Willemstad, Curacao. Amsterdam's cannabis enthusiasts and entrepreneurs are shocked that Mayor Femke Halsema apparently announced on Monday, that she along with local police and prosecution officials, will ban foreign tourists from cafes that sell cannabis (drugs), to prevent drug hassles in the city center.
THE SOLUTION TO KEEP TOURIST BUYING CANNABIS PRODUCT
Amsterdam cannabis purveyors Barney's, Best Friends and Sensi Seeds reportedly wrote in a joint message to the mayor on Tuesday and sent a letter with alternative proposals to tackle the problem in late March. They laid out eight alternative proposals in their plan, including a trial allowing coffeeshops to use a delivery service to counter illegal vendors and an extension of the pilot program to move coffeeshops to other locations.
The proposal and possible alternatives are still being discussed with the city council. Therefore, the alternatives proposed by cannabis companies will be included in governmental and municipal discussions.
