Willemstad, Curacao. On March 17th, 2022, a Curacao judge penalized a woman who cares for 150 stray dogs (every day). According to the ruling, she must pay 2,500 guilders and serve a two-year probationary sentence for illegally occupying a place on the beach at Playa Canoa. According to the Curacao law, land acquisition without permission is illegal and penalized by law.
OWNERSHIP ATTEMPT SINCE 1994
Since 1994, the woman has been attempting to officially acquire title of the property with no success. The judge and the Office of the Public Prosecutor were sympathetic to the woman's position. According to authorities the woman does a great job of taking in stray dogs, but she is no longer allowed to care for them at the premise.
