AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL TELLS ITALY TO NOT DISCRIMINATE AGAINST THE UNVACCINATED By: JJosephaNews Reading Time: 1:00 mins. Twitter: @JJosephaNews Willemstad, Curacao. January 14th 2022. In a recent decree, Italian Prime Minister: Mr. Mario Draghi (74) and his government made vaccination mandatory for everyone over the age of 50 and for use of public transport and a range of other services. WHY MANDATORY VACCINE WAS NECESSARY? The extreme measures are intended to relieve stress on Italian health-care systems and prevent mortality. Wearing a mask and having a negative COVID-19 test are not enough to get on public transit or to go to work for persons over the age of 50, according to current restrictions, which are in effect until June 15. THE DISCRIMINATION OF THE UNVACCINATED In a statement released late Saturday, Amnesty International called for the implementation of alternative measures, like as masks and COVID-19 testing, to allow the unvaccinated population to continue to work and utilize public transportation "without discrimination." To use public transportation in Italy, one must display a "Super Green Pass" for coronavirus disease (COVID-19). According to Amnesty International: "The government must continue to ensure that the entire population can enjoy its fundamental rights, such as the right to education, work and medial treatment, with particular regard to non-COVID patients who need urgent surgery."
